Amazon confirmed to CENT on Monday that it will open its first grocery store next year 2020.

It will be full grocery stores that will not be under the Whole Foods brand and the first will open in Los Angeles, Woodland Hills, California, and the company said that the in-store payment system will not use the same technology used in the Amazon Go chain.

This means that the company will probably use a different approach in the new grocery chain that suits the type of products on offer, and it confirms somewhat that it will launch it as a separate brand as well.

The Wall Street Journal pointed to Amazon's plan to open grocery stores in March, when the report said that the e-commerce giant will offer products different from those available in the food chain, and that they will also get lower prices than the products available in the Whole Foods series.

Amazon said the new store chain could open in the same stores as Toys R Us, which declared bankruptcy in 2017 as its locations are registered on Google Maps.

The grocery market is witnessing fierce competition between tech giants and online sales. Uber recently acquired Cornershop grocery delivery company last month at a time Walmart was seeking to acquire.
